Mark Smeby | Worth County Board of Supervisors
Mark Smeby, incumbent member of the Worth County Board of Supervisors, is seeking the Republican nomination for re-election to his seat representing District 2 for a four-year term. The primary election will be held on June 4.
According to BallotReady.org, Smeby will face Richard Scholbrock in the GOP primary.
In January 2021, Smeby was appointed to serve as the Worth County Supervisor for District 2 after newly elected Gary Hanson vacated his seat, according to Lake Mills Graphic. Smeby had been District 2's supervisor prior to the election, so he was effectively continuing his previous term.
In a press release, RED PAC Chief Strategist Charlie Kolean endorsed Smeby, saying his "dedication to safeguarding private property rights and [his] commitment to fiscal prudence are exactly what our communities in Iowa need to thrive. We believe [his] leadership will not only promote transparency and accountability but also enhance economic opportunities for all citizens.”
According to his personal Facebook page, Smeby was born in Joice and still lives there. He studied at Iowa State University and has a background in farming.
Smeby and his wife have been married for more than 40 years and have children and grandchildren who are carrying on the family farming tradition.
According to the Worth County Board of Supervisors' website, the Board is responsible for determining County policy, setting the County budget, levying County taxes, approving bonds and reports, filling employee vacancies, and promoting economic development. The Board comprises three members, each representing one district.
