During a recent board meeting, Cerro Gordo County Board increased efforts to make Election Day run as smoothly as it can with Nov. 3 less than a month away, while also funding the Winnebago River plan.
On Oct. 7, the county started by testing the election system, Globe Gazette reported. The county was also approved for a $20,325 grant, signed by Auditor Adam Wedmore, which will be used for election expenses.
The money will be used "specifically for the general election for costs incurred throughout the several months preceding the election and several months after the election," Wedmore told the Globe Gazette. "We will be utilizing this primarily for offsetting the precinct election official wages for the day, including additional staff we will need specifically for COVID."
Mason City Council has also approved funds for the Winnebago River project.
"This is something the city has requested we sign to go along with their grant efforts," County Chair Tim Latham told the Globe Gazette.
