Quality of life, economic growth and investing in the arts are a few projects that the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs awards money to every year.
In just this year alone, the department gave out 176 grants totaling $2 million. Of that $2 million, 11 projects totaling $103,000 went to projects, programs, small businesses and individuals in North Iowa, the Globe Gazette reported.
The Garner Public Library in Hancock County received the largest lump sum of cash totaling $18,176. These funds went toward putting the Kanawha Reporter Issues from 1932-1988 and 2004-2015 on microfilm. The purpose of this was to digitize the issues to make them more readily available.
In addition, Franklin County Historical Society received $17,085 for an REA Power Plant in Hampton and the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum received $15,000 for operating support.
