First Security Bank & Trust recently made more than $10,000 in donations to the Floyd County Fair to help with its recovery efforts from a 2019 tornado and the current COVID-19 pandemic.
First Security Bank & Trust, which has also donated $50,000 over the past five years for the Youth Enrichment Center at the fairgrounds, recently made several donations to the Floyd County Fair through the First Security Foundation, according to a KIMT News report. The donations include $10,000 to build a wooden pavilion for special event rentals, $1,000 for the fair's ongoing expenses and $250 for the livestock show arena, KIMT reported.
“We are proud to support such an important community resource,” First Security Marketing Manager Matt Bradley said in a statement. “We’re determined to make sure this fair overcomes these two major challenges and comes back even stronger in 2021.”
Floyd County Fair Board President Amy Staudt said in a statement that the funding is particularly important to the kids and their livestock shows, which are among the few events that have not been canceled for 2020 due to the pandemic.
"This is about those kids who have taken the time throughout the year to start this project,” Staudt said. “We wanted to make sure they can still show their livestock. So, we’ll get those livestock shows in here for them. They can focus on that this year at least, and have something come out of that."
