A newly launched 30-day t-shirt campaign announced April 7 to help small businesses in North Iowa affected by the COVID-19 pandemic is reminding people to support local companies.

Custom youth and adult T-shirts with the slogan “North Iowa Strong" are being sold online to raise funds for North Iowa small businesses thanks to a partnership between D&D Sales Inc., Alpha Media  and CENT Credit Union, all of Mason City.

“Our goal is to make a huge North Iowa community event and make the biggest impact we can for our small business community,” D&D Sales’ states on their website. “We are not looking to make a profit but to cover our costs and help other businesses during this time of need.”

The campaign calls for online t-shirt purchasers to refer to a list of participating small businesses in order to designate which businesses they want to support monetarily through their purchases. The t-shirts start at a cost of $20 each. More than 100 businesses are participating.

Window World of Mason City is among the participating businesses.

“Window World is not just a business, it is a family. It is part of the community,” said an April 9 Window World of Mason City’s Facebook post. “This is the time of the year that we are usually sponsoring area little league and soccer teams, while our crews are busy installing windows, doors and siding."

The t-shirt campaign’s funds will go to participating small businesses in North Iowa, according to D&D Sales’ Facebook post on April 7.

“Thirteen dollars of every shirt purchased will go back to business right here in North Iowa, $10 of the funds will go to the business of your choice while the other $3 will be put in a general fund to be split among all participating businesses,” D&D Sales’ Facebook post said.

People may purchase a t-shirt or make a donation of $50, according to D&D Sales’ website.

“When purchasing your shirt or opting in for a donation you are required to choose which business you would like to support,” the website said. “If you are purchasing multiple shirts or making multiple donations you can pick multiple businesses.”

T-shirt purchasers will pick up their purchases at the businesses of their choice.
