Meservey community members will have to pay higher sewer service charges starting in July after the Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors approved a requested rate hike at the Feb. 25 meeting.

Board member Casey Callanan described the upcoming increases as being long overdue, he told the Globe Gazette.

Property owners in the community of approximately 250 people, will pay $25 per month for the first 3,000 gallons of water used. In July 2022, the rate increases to $28 for 3,000 gallons per month. Any usage more than 3,000 gallons will see an additional $7 per 1,000 gallons.

The county governing body also rescheduled the proposed property tax levy public hearing date from March 3 to March 10.

The public hearing will take place at 10:10 a.m. at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse, 220 North Washington Ave., Mason City.

The current county budget is approximately $38 million, according to the Globe Gazette.
